the result is that bus service is free in affluent college towns like Amherst, but demands exact change in struggling post-industrial cities like Holyoke, Chicopee, Springfield, and Westfield (Northampton buses also require exact change but college kids can ride some free w ID)

whoa!! what about other boston area universities, do they get a similar deal?
-
these aren't Boston-area lmao, but I don't know what arrangements Boston universities have with MBTA
-
oh yeah i forget those towns are all pretty far away from the boston metro area. i actually went to summer camp at mt holyoke college (south hadley?) many years ago. i have some family sort of in the area as well
-
nice! Mt Holyoke has probably the best campus of the lot
-
it was super pretty. much nicer than where i actually ended up going to college (suny binghamton). i was there for the johns hopkins center for talented youth summer program (the younger kids' version) in like 2000 i think
-
oh rip I've been thru binghamton exactly once...that's cool tho, I was just a couple towns over when you were there
-
binghamton is a pretty wretched place and a model of a Depressing Car Town. the university is basically the only industry in the area now
