Some highlights from a recent comparison put out by Texas Central--very excited to see this project completed.

...main reasons for my optimism here: - mostly competing with flying, stations are better sited than the airports - meets people where they are--most don't walk or take transit yet, and that wouldn't change much if stations were downtown - will likely keep developing over time!
to clarify my last point: what I mean is both that the cities themselves will keep developing (ie the station sites will become more important over time) AND that the HSR will keep developing (new routes and stations--can always build a downtown extension later!)

20 minutes in a Texas summer is a long distance to walk.
if you can't walk 20 minutes you can't really walk anywhere, rendering the downtown-location-emphasis moot
I meant the normally hot summers make even the shortest walks torture.
sure, I'm just pointing out that to the extent that this is true, walkability is irrelevant
There is no-where to walk in houston anyway and there is a massive ride-sharing infrastructure now.
If the Houston Line made it near the Galleria or the Woodland Mall it would probably do really well
The Houston station is to be built at 610 and 290, fwiw
https://www.chron.com/news/transportation/article/High-speed-train-sets-sights-on-Northwest-Mall-12552360.php … yeah fuck me this area is ghetto as shit that mall is literally dead. I live close though
they're tearing the mall down and putting this in its place, iirc
I just hope my Texas Biggest Antique Mall stays intact next to it.
I feel like having the station eccentric to downtown is a feature, makes it less onerous to drive to/from.
