Wouldn’t have prevented what seems to be human error on switch lock out on a 10-pax train a day route. So long as you have shared ROW, you won’t get rid of the issues.

Shared freight and pax infra seems to operate w/o incident in Japan on the regular, not sure why this is so much harder for us
-
They are operating FAR less ton/miles of freight and the bulk of shared mileage is very limited, but yes, we should be striving for those numbers.
-
The bulk of freight track in Japan is shared with passenger service, most notably on the Tokaido and Sanyo main lines, two of the busiest in the country for passengers *and* freight. Low overall share but it amounts to an awful lot of freight traffic in practice

I wish I could pay money to do a work study with JR Freight. Only guys I got to work with was Indian Railways and they have a bit of a different culture.

If only one passenger'd had a gun, the accident would have never happened (?)
