While living in Japan, I found capsule hotels to be practical and convenient. Staying out past the last train becomes far less appealing idea at 2 AM than it was at 9:30PM. $20 lets you snooze it off and have a shower/bath before heading home.

$20 is a better rate than I had ever found--closer to $60 ime, the main reason I haven't used them

I spent most of my time in Nagoya, Kyoto, and Osaka. If you were in Tokyo that might explain the price difference. I like the concept capsule hotels too. First Cabin offers a room that resembles a first class suite on an Emirates-type airline. $40/night or so.pic.twitter.com/a4PpjWc7Us

The one I went to has some people who have, literally, been coming there every day since it opened in 1981.

The sento/sauna is part of the reason why they're great. Some have relaxation rooms you can sleep in—that's the cheapest way, pay only for sento for the night and just sleep there, no capsule.

Love capsule hotels. I've stayed in a cheap one for over a year put together (kind of a special case; not that I would normally recommend that, but that's how it happened).
