Yesterday I had the opportunity to ride one of the Springfield bus routes at the peak hour--which is around 2 PM, rather than 8 AM or 5 PM. The bus was standing room only, orderly, friendly (people moving towards windows to make room for new riders), polite conversation volume...

Anyway, sociological observations aside: this is a bus which comes every 20 minutes...just about the bottom threshhold for a convenient service. We're not in any financial shape to raise frequency on the route, but I can't emphasize enough that the demand is CLEARLY there!

So many arguments that America doesn't have more transit due to lack of demand ignore the fact that high demand is absolutely no guarantee of expanded service--this level of crowding could persist for years (and has, AFAIK) with no improvement! This must change
