Farebeating rates are about even, in some cases less, than line-up-singe-file-like-kindergartners procedures

Those Japanese providers don't fuck around with POP and as far as I know they're not plagued by fare-dodgers either

Japan doesn't need to fuck around with PoP because they have trains where in the west we have buses

Right, but buses in Tokyo are so slow that the city mostly gave up on them. So best industry practice is elsewhere.

There are an awful lot around (and a whole lot of operators) for a city that gave up on them

Toei has, what, a million daily bus riders? That's not a lot for how big the city is. Compare that with TfL, or SBS/SMRT.

I can't find annual bus ridership stats for Toei, so I'm not sure--but Toei isn't even the only bus provider in the 23 wards, let alone in the rest of the Tokyo area

Odakyu's fact book doesn't provide ridership for buses, but confirms that bus passengers account for about 6% of operating income--a worse farebox recovery than their trains, but still positive for every year listed (2012-present)
