he goes on to say that affluent people who are depressed will notice the incongruity btw mood and circumstances and thus seek treatment, whereas poor people who are depressed will not conclude that their mood is out of sync with their circumstances and thus neglect treatment...

...I get that he's trying to emphasize untreated mental illness among the poor but this sort of implies that a well-adjusted poor person would be totally happy in their circumstances

Yeah but if he thinks genetics are exactly equal between the rich and the poor he isn't thinking. The only way that could be is if genes had 0% input into intelligence or personality. Bad assumptions -> bad conclusions.
