The problem is that the 2016 pattern on the subway in New York is really not consistent with the Uber siphoning theory.

I've been skeptical about the Uber theory, but only because of info I had read from Boston--what's the catch re: NY?

I think one can say both "It's not all Uber's fault" and "crappy off-peak service is a big driver of ridership loss"

yes--in general i think transit providers want it to be uber's fault because then they can avoid blame

"you can't expect us to do anything, this is a technology shift" vs "ok, maybe the long waits, crummy facilities, and slow travel times ARE a problem"

Unfortunately I'm not sure how many are even capable of conceiving of transit as something that's nice to use--which makes it very hard for them to make it so

As someone who had several occasions where I relied on the R10 and some other PVTA busses I’m not sure I can say that it was particularly pleasant (although not being in the old bus terminal improves things a lot I assume)

I would never call the current offering "pleasant" (and often hesitate to call it "acceptable"), the point is that if the people running it don't think that "pleasant" is even possible in the first place, they will be that much less likely to achieve it

also R10 huh...you have my condolences; I think it's our busiest 1-per-hour route, lot more demand there than is being met by supply

Then why is it not going up to 2 per hour?

because our budget is down over 10% and all routes are facing cuts--none are adding frequency

That is criminal, just checked the Worcester routes I had used when I lived there and the frequency went from half hourly to hourly on a bunch of them jfc.
