People are now flabbergasted when a franchise film *doesn't* cheat them- they're amazed when it fulfills the simple rules of mythological correspondence. People look back at Star Wars now with the same reverence cavemen had for the regularity of the sun's transit.

Does it not frighten you that Rick & Morty is as central to many souls as the campfire tale was to savage pagans? I frighten myself by my thankfulness for as flawed a film as Blade Runner 2049, like being thankful for the backwash of a water bottle, mouth so dry...

Our art is as only as good as the audience it has. If there is no one to appreciate it, it does not exist anymore. The tree falling in the empty woods makes no sound. It doesn't even exist.
