FELLAS, I am considering making a 2-week trip around the USA via Amtrak (again...the last one was 8 years ago) Primary goals are to visit places I missed last time: the South, the Southwest, Texas

I see you’re avoiding Florida. I don’t blame you. A bit of a dead end. But I will “watch this space” and if it looks like you’ll be in Jacknsonville at any point I’d be happy to get you lunch.
-
if there is sufficient time, I would *love* to get out to Florida as well--but it would be a round trip to and from DC, where I could link up w rest of the system
-
not sure how much I can fit into two weeks tho, given Amtrak's slow travel times...Florida might call for a dedicated trip of its own (by air, not train)
-
Right. At some point you’re basically required by your Samurai Train Code to try out the first privately funded train in 100 years, right?

Don't do CHI 2x; maybe Little Rock to Memphis by bus? Skip Atlanta and do Savannah, Charleston SC, Williamsburg VA instead. Mississippi Delta is cool, but car prolly needed?
-
Charleston/Savannah are both on the long dead-end to Florida; visiting them drastically reduces the other cities i can go to (Chicago has the opposite effect, which is why I pass through it twice, tho not planning on staying there at all)
-
Maybe the NOLA-FLA route will be back by then.

You must REALLY LOVE Chicago I guess (Amtrak does!)
