To the south, the faint outline of the Bearpaws came into view. We stopped at Shelby, MT, then continued on to Cut Bank, passing a line of cliffs and foothills as we did--the Rockies getting closerpic.twitter.com/xyuullBiRh

Finally, the Rockies themselves were visible. Shortly thereafter, I hopped off the train.pic.twitter.com/Kdk1qIePq0
When you get out, you think you're just at this lodge in the mountains--but as the train pulls away, it reveals the town on the opposite side of the trackspic.twitter.com/1yGvrU8bbN
I spent the night at a hostel staffed by Lithuanian girls, then the next morning set out walking for Glacier NP. I didn't have a map & the park was rly driving distance away, but I managed to climb halfway up Mount Henry, turn around, and get back for the next train that eveningpic.twitter.com/qP4exJn9WG
The train passed through the Rockies overnight and I woke up near Wenatchee, then passed a tunnel to the damper side of the Cascades before arriving in Seattle. Lovely gardens there, and I got to see the Blue Angelspic.twitter.com/WFcjGp7fBz
Enjoyed a trip on the Seattle LRT as wellpic.twitter.com/Acsec1E1B4
Took the Coast Starlight the next day heading to Los Angeles--a Talgo at Portland, lots of lovely scenery, and sunny weather while we paused in San Diegopic.twitter.com/JQzUy49p4g
Through Salinas, through the golden hills, around curves so tight you could see the other end of the train in the distance, then another break at San Luis Obispopic.twitter.com/OkzFnoJFOv
When we finally reached the Pacific Coast in southern Cali, I was a underwhelmed at first...but then the clouds cleared....
...last pic is in Santa Barbara. Alas, the rest of the photos never made it to FB, but after LA I hit up SF, Denver, and Chicago, then home.

Nice photo summary. The whole trip took 2 weeks to travel? Did you spend any nights not on the train?
yup! I stayed in a hotel near Pittsburgh, with family in Seattle and LA, and at youth hostels in Glacier, SF, and Chicago
