I look at these threads and half the pictures are just wailing infants, the text just screeches--I am not being metaphorical here, it's a surprising optical illusion
Sometimes I wonder how they imagine the rest of the world works, then I remember that I know people from Western MA who have never left the state and in some cases never even made it to Boston
Never doubt 1) people's incuriosity or 2) their capacity to fantasize worst case scenarios over the introduction of something new
By the way--when I see people making hysterical arguments against some rail or other transit proposal, it often looks to me the way Oregon's reaction to letting people pump their own gas might look to you
...and the only reason I say "often" instead of "always" is that transit projects in the USA tend to be pretty disappointing, and are in some cases actually bad enough to merit such hysterical reactions
