As someone said recently I hate that we're all being frogmarched towards driver-less cars when what I really want is car-less cities.

Driverless trains were/are a lot easier than driverless cars and that could have been a huge advantage driving prices down over busses and such, if cars get it before trains it'll be a huge lost oppurtunity to take back market share.

I wouldn't advocate driverless for someplace trains are profitable already, it's more important to keep jobs in that case, but if the train is running at a loss making them competitive saves more jobs in the long run (jobs in maintenance, manufacturing, etc.)

Moving to a city with insufficient transit really makes you appreciate even the T, people (this author) need to get out of their bubble and appreciate the services they gripe non-stop about.
