other rail transit systems with 24/7/365 service: Minneapolis, Frankfurt S-bahn, Cologne S-bahn, Sydney metro. London Thameslink all nights except Sunday night.

I was wrong to say 'many' ... but it's also wrong to say NYC Subway is unique in 24/7 service either. Should've said 'several.'

But 24/7 service alone doesn't excuse MTA's sorry state given several other 24/7 systems. Of course, you can then point to its size, or lack of political will, but you could make a similar excuse for any poorly run system by pointing out that no other system's exactly the same
