with my current game in the mid 1750s, I'm down to the wire for any last campaigns...I've moved half my army into the Americas to punish New Castille for stealing land from one of my colonial nations; the other half is on the steppes ready to attack Kazakh
As many institutions as possible need to spawn in Japan instead of in Europe, otherwise the handicap is overwhelming. And I gotta gotta gotta resist the temptation to get on land in Asia (except Kamchatka) until mid-to-late game

You can get a hell of an empire on islands alone: Japan + Ryukyu + Taiwan + Sakhalin + Kuril + Jeju = 50 provinces Indonesia + Philippines + Australia + Hainan = 124 provinces NZ + Pacific Islands (including Galapagos but not Aleutians or Pac NW) = 30 provinces 204 total

Think about the trade map when it comes to colonization. Does Girin send to Nippon? If not, why colonize there instead of California or Mexico, which do go across the Pacific your way? You want to colonize upstream of your main trade node

good move. Indonesia is a pretty solid trade node for spawning Global Trade if you move your main trade province into it through colonization
