Interesting. Can you elaborate?

American idea of competition seems to be "play to win;" a company does its best to corner a market, shut out new starts, and then rent seek
-
While quality deteriorates bc no feedback mechanism in the form of competition from other companies
-
Japanese sense is more "play to keep playing;" competition like working out instead of like running a race
-
Proliferation of businesses, many of them incredibly small (one or two man shops etc), always new entries into markets
-
IDK, these are just my impressions--they might be inaccurate. But coming back to USA from Japan you're struck by ABSENCE of commerce here

bc cronyism?
-
mainly I think abt monopolistic tendencies here; capture a market and then rent seek forever, that kinda thing
-
curious abt how does Japan curb those tendencies
-
not sure but a big part of it appears to be low barriers to entry--tons of laughably small businesses there, seems like anyone can start up
-
America is obviously more successful in tech startups then Japan, I honestly think America has a superior startup culture
-
We're better with tech startups (debatable), but they're clearly better in cafes and restaurants...which is more accessible to most people?
-
I can't look at this objectively because there are a lot of privately owned restaurants where I live and I know several restaurant owners
-
Yeah bear in mind you live in the *most* capitalistic part of the country

Japan isn't getting Kemono Friends S2 though either
-
what's the story there again? scandal?
-
Afaik the gist is that the financiers fired the director on his birthday and of course all the fans were pissed, cancelling pre-orders etc
-
what was their excuse for firing him?

Japan's public sector is large enough that I wouldn't really call them strictly capitalist either
