getting spare parts can be tough...easy stuff is where we live, harder stuff is in colder, harsher places like the arctic or asteroid belt

Yeah. Biggest mystery factor is how well near-term biotech can help humans adapt to space. Radiation and zero-g resistance wud b useful.

If we must maintain earth-like environment the whole time, some spinning habitat sections required. And lots of shielding.

The other biggest design issue is propulsion. Both acceleration and deceleration. If we must use on-board reaction mass, no bueno.
