Amtrak food is ok but laughably overpriced

"We've got you now!"

Is long distance train food inexpensive in other countries?
-
In Japan the beer is way cheaper, other food slightly cheaper ($6 instead of $8)
-
You've got to go to Southeast Asia, that's where the deals are, every station has a market selling fresh fruit and that sort of thing
-
I shouldn't say market, more like some lady came to the station to sell fruit, but it's cool either way, if slightly uncivilized.

It sounds awesome

What’s the minimum trip length for them to offer food? On anything less than a full day I can’t imagine paying these prices.
-
Doesn't matter how far you're going, only how far the train's going
-
That said every Amtrak train I've been on has sold food
-
Local trains btwn Albany and NYP don't typically have food sales though.

the food you get when you're in the overnight rooms with showers (can't remember terms) is good, the steak specifically is surprisingly good
-
but traveling that way was insanely overpriced and we sat in the mountains for hours for some reason. still wanted to try it once.

Well that makes me feel a lot better about Deutsche Bahn's €4 beer
