NYC to LA by plane = 5 hrs (roughly) by current trains = 4 days, 3 nights by high speed rail = 14 hrs at best by maglev some day = 10 hrs
I really don't know anything about this but what is so different in China that it works. Government money?
I'm not sure the actual costs, but when I was in China it seemed like medium trips were much cheaper by train than air. And more available
Yes, they strike the balance just right: shorter than USA coast-to-coast + much faster trains = many easily-supplied trips possible
High speed rail in USA viable for parts of the country, not for getting from one coast to another, but we'd have to build it first
Seems unviable. People can't take 6 extra days off work for a vacation. I love trains but if I did the cc, it would be for the experience.
