All trains used as examples run on standard gauge track, which is used between Boston and Springfield
#TrainTwitter
I would love to compare specs with current EMUs on, say, the Red Line, but am having trouble finding that information...
Overall, an average speed target of 60mph is about right. That translates to a 1h 40m trip between Boston and Springfield.
how many stops should it have? Springfield isn't that huge so it ought to have some intermediate stops
but between Springfield and Worcester is very lightly populated. Palmer and maybe a Brookfield stop; existing route is very curvy
I would say frequent stops between Boston and Framingham, fairly frequent as far as Worcester (maybe a little further)...
...then only stop in town center areas between there and Wilbraham (3 Brookfields, 2 Warrens, 1 Palmer).
A handful of stops between North Wilbraham and Springfield to conclude the route.
