      Hot springs are popular in the Tokyo area and implausible in Boston, but skiing and beach destinations hold up in both

      Sorta...the Osaka area has a lot more historic attractions at its terminii (Kyoto, Nara, Mt Koya, Himeji Castle, Ise Shrine)
