"Man, I wish our cities were more affordable and sustainable" *sees sustainable, affordable cities* "Oh haha not like that"

Could you post some examples? I'm not familiar.

yee pls elaborate on the critiques of Japanese urbanism, and what blackpill means
-
To say something blackpills me means that it fills me with an irresolvable despair The critiques vary based on which aspect of JP urbanism
-
But they tend to amount to explaining how the JP method differs from the US method, then saying that the fact of the difference itself...
-
...proves that the idea can never be applied in US. Circular reasoning.
-
Examples include privatization of railways, standardization of zoning law, use of short-lifespan construction, etc...
-
How is short-lifespan construction beneficial? Make way for newer technologies instead of spend $ to modernize old systems?

Not sure who you're talking about, Japan looks great to me
-
"Houses should not be designed to last--a 30-year lifespan is adequate for concrete-based houses" how does this make u feel
-
Are you're saying it is hypocritical to like many aspects of a system without loving all of them?
-
depends on how crucial said aspects are to said system--my impression is that short lifespan of housing is a key aspect of Japanese urbanism
-
"Do you want this result?" vs "Do you want to do what it takes to get there?"
-
Short lifespan is kind of unimportant in my understanding. Japan's real secret sauce is non-local decision making.
-
Zoning law is national but all the decisions about applying it are made locally
-
If you had asked me, I'd have said Japan's secret sauce is the exact opposite: a high degree of local decision making
