Instead of stopping at Providence, for example, it would pass through Woonsocket, a quick ride to Providence or Worcester from there...

Metro areas of Providence's size get served centrally even in France (Lille), let alone Japan (Shizuoka, Hamamatsu).

...isn't Gifu in that category too? Osaka is certainly much larger & the result there was a new city subcenter w/o the old one moving either
