It's a solution looking for a problem wrapped in romanticism. I get it, I like them too but, maglev doesn't change the calculation much.
And people want them when they can get more value from them, thus: increase value -> more people want it -> profit

So far, unions have killed any possibility of 'profit'. You can't even close a line that has no passengers on AMTRAK w/o paying buy out.
