Turns out you're meant to bring a car if you want to explore a national park, but I set out on foot anyway, towards the nearest mountainpic.twitter.com/lOQRFJtueQ
I didn't know how far away it was, and once in the woods, I wasn't entirely sure which direction to follow...pic.twitter.com/m7TajIzlsu
After an hour or so, I found myself mostly above the treelinepic.twitter.com/UxD0C9xFn0
The same mountain I had been following--it was called Mt Henry--now loomed just a short distance awaypic.twitter.com/AOqW9sWUk6
Glad that I'd made it this far, and could get back in time for the train, I pressed on to see how high I could getpic.twitter.com/DdEYFkGSrJ
Eventually the loose rock slopes gave way to sheer cliffs above, and I started the walk back. The train, of course, was 2 hours late.pic.twitter.com/sfnSXjNbRL
I was using a 2-week Amtrak national pass (about $400) and stayed in a youth hostel at East Glacier
thats cool how far did you go on the pass
Springfield MA -> NYC -> Pittsburgh -> Chicago -> Glacier -> Seattle -> LA -> SF -> Denver -> Chicago -> Springfield MA
I came really close to taking that train once. I got hired at a job and couldn't make it out
