do you think this applies to the Cape area/South Shore? Saw a lot of pushback on the Greenbush line a few yrs ago from Hingham, Scituate etc
-
-
-
Definitely applies there--but bear in mind Greenbush and other Old Colony lines weren't really built with tourism in mind
-
Massachusetts should promote tourism on those lines as part of a larger process of upgrading them--would probably still be unpopular tho...
-
...because people don't like their towns being flooded with visitors. To be fair, part of this is b/c it normally means way more car traffic
-
i think theyd be better off marketing it as a way to ease congestion, maybe a dedicated line to braintree with added capacity at peak hrs
-
would be irresponsible to market it as a way to ease congestion--that's saying "ride this train so ppl who don't ride it can drive easier"
-
it must sound pedantic on my part, but definitely better to market is as a way to escape or avoid congestion--not a way to reduce it
-
you're right, I shouldve been more broad. Just considering, ive been in Cape traffic, its awful & im sure most would embrace an alternative

Not sure I like the idea of turning locations into a commodity
-
we already do this dude (and have for centuries; this is what pilgrimages are about)
-
Pilgrimages (visiting locations for religious or personal reasons) is different from tourism (turning locations and experience into something to be bought and sold)
-
what do you think happens to pilgrimage sites on like...day 2
-
never been to a pilgrimage site that didn't have tons of merch (and people profiting indirectly eg hotels, restaurants)
-
I don't *necessarily* mind merch or hotels But I hate driving into a city and seeing tourist traps and billboards and just Garbage and cheap crap everywhere
-
I'm with you re: billboards, garbage, and cheap shit

Where's the transit tourism? Honestly I'd just go back to Japan to ride the Shinkansen and subways again
-
The transit tourism is how you get to all the rest!
