A few infill stations + modest frequency improvements + marketing = 200% ridership increase Imagine what further improvements would do!https://twitter.com/StreetsblogUSA/status/892419762994786304 …

How does Japan charge by distance? Do you pay when you get off?
-
On buses, yeah, usually
-
What about trains? If they charge when you get on, is it honor system you get off when you say you will?
-
on trains you buy a ticket to a particular destination, pay accordingly, then *keep your ticket* during trip & use it to leave the station
-
so, if I buy a ticket that would only get me one stop, then ride ten stops, I'll get caught at the fare gates when I try to leave
-
on lines without fare gates at stations, the mechanism is similar to buses iirc

Mixed feelings...but the main one on my mind is they should not separate ownership of track from operation of services!!

I don't understand why they've not given you a position to call these shots. Maybe in 10 yrs...
