The busiest year-round route is the B7 in Springfield, weighing in at 549 boards/mile The network avg for Boston Commuter Rail is 306 b/mi

Upon inspection it looks like even the highest rider density Commuter Rail line (Needham) tops out at 775 b/mi

15 minute frequencies + mixed traffic and you can still get better results than hourly frequencies + dedicated ROW...take note...
-
What happens when you electrify the Needham Line and dramatically boost its frequency? How high can we push those numbers?
-
Just for a sense of scale--Boston's Blue Line hits 11,253 boards per mile. London's Victoria Line = 42,031 b/mi.
-
Tokyo's Chiyoda Line = 75,425 b/mi Hong Kong's Tsuen Wan Line = 105/830 b/mi I expect that's close to the upper bound for a single line

Is boards/mile a common metric? I don't think I've seen it before, thought it makes sense (with the usual caveat of don't use exclusively)
-
I've seen it used when Japanese railways evaluate profitability of lines (upkeep is higher as distance increases among other things)
