I ask because in Japan and Spain the HSR network is 1435mm while the conventional networks are 1067mm and 1668mm respectively

Not impressed with E5- it's only 10 coaches long. The 700 has 16. We don't need the top speed of E5 (too $$$), but capacity of the 700.

Mumbai-A'bad is a heavily used route. Having same gauge & link tracks would reduce the load on old tracks. With 1435, HSR track is isolated.

Texas, on the other hand, has opted for the train used in the Tokaido Shinkansen, but whether they will be 16 coaches long isn't clear.
