England has far less wilderness than MA. Not because England has higher population density or bigger cities, but because of farmland!

Those rolling bucolic hills you see in pics of rural England are certainly beautiful, don't get me wrong. But they're not wilderness!

Wilderness is land that's being left to its own devices--in temperate climates, that usually means it's densely overgrown woodlands.
