It's claimed to have the highest capacity of any metro in the world, with 12-car trains (3,000 rider capacity) arriving every 2.5 minutes
Saudi Arabia has estimated that the line replaced 53,000 buses! There are some things that only make sense using trains...
The line was designed, built, and put into operation by CRCC in a breathtaking 22 months, between 2008 and 2010.

This shows the proposed metro system for Riyadh (iirc it will also be China-built). 3-line systems are also proposed for Jeddah and Medina.pic.twitter.com/tukWiGH0s2
Saudi Arabia has also been working on a high speed rail line between Mecca and Medina--supposed to open this January, now delayedpic.twitter.com/qXXvUB7t24

We will have to see how they turn out when the line opens to the public--sometime between December 2017 and March 2018
