obviously this depends on the specifics, but having a long train commute in Tokyo seems less pleasant than one in Paris or Berlin

The longer your commute in Tokyo the easier it is to get a seat (you board before ppl closer in) & the more reserved seat options there are

But I do know from Boston that trains which maximize seat count are absolute hell once the seats fill up--less so when there's standing room

Heck, they're pretty bad *before* all the seats fill up because people start standing to avoid sitting next to each other
