Judging by Keisei, a double-track electrified commuter railroad should be able to fit within a 40' wide ROW and have a little room to spare

Keisei platform lengths hover around 500' which if memory serves is a bit short by Tokyo standards, but might be enough in Boston

Comparing double-track w quadruple-track segments in Odakyu (narrow gauge) and assuming the ratio holds for standard...4-track = <100' ROW

So...if you kill 1 lane per direction on the Mass Pike in Newton/Brighton, and use the space to expand the rail line...it could fit 4 tracks

Pretty tough sell. Service would have to be waaaay better than at present for this to be palatable.
