Is it a meme that Tokyo house prices were already exorbitantly high?
-
Maybe before the bubble burst. What is not a meme is that LAND prices in Tokyo are very high...but willingness to build keeps housing cheap
-
So when you say "land" do you mean that home ownership is very expensive compared to rent?
-
No I mean *land,* not counting whatever's built on it. Home ownership is fine if you don't build on much land.
-
So in practice, how expensive is housing? You can't have housing without land, land costs have to be factored in.
-
Yes that's what I'm trying to say; housing is relatively cheap in Japan, in spite of high land costs

I swear, restrictive zoning laws have screwed up some cities so hard it's not even funny.
