I'm talking about after a bad man and a bad woman have already met and conceived. Hence responsibility for pregnancy, rather than chastity

yes, bc then as now, if the dad bails it's hard to prove it nonetheless, dads *were* expected to legitimize pregnancy then, and aren't now
