Two smaller Tokyo-area companies...Shin-Keisei and Sotetsu! The former interoperates with Keisei, idk why they're distinct companies...pic.twitter.com/XN7zCuXzNN
Heading to Nagoya now--this is Meitetsu! Meitetsu is unrivaled in the Nagoya area, "Meitetsu" itself is short for "Nagoya Railroad"pic.twitter.com/xbyIQdYpSV
Between Nagoya and Osaka you will find Kintetsu! Kintetsu is the largest private railway in Japan (by mileage), if memory servespic.twitter.com/3lEV4JaEcK
Next: Nankai Nankai's intimidating express "Rap:t" serves Kansai Airport--other lines serve Wakayama and the holy Mt Koyapic.twitter.com/rCdNvpneCg
On the other side of the city: Keihan! Their sophisticated trains shuttle people between Osaka and Kyotopic.twitter.com/RaHTj5tehi
Heading west, we enter Hankyu's territory! Hankyu's glamorous trains serve Osaka's northern suburbs, connecting to Kyoto and Kobe too!pic.twitter.com/N8n7QwhuAH
Just south is Hanshin! Hanshin competes on the busy Osaka-Kobe route, and recently extended one of its Osaka lines to Namba terminalpic.twitter.com/3gbqsMJnkG
Next is Sanyo! This railway operates west of Kobe, connecting to Himeji. Through service is available onto Hankyu and Hanshin!pic.twitter.com/pUkN036Sw1
Let's conclude with Shintetsu This little railway serves Kobe's northern suburbs, and connects to Sanyo, Hankyu, & Hanshin in downtown Kobepic.twitter.com/D4bvKDeiJv
(I’ll get back to you on that…)
Looks complicated, maybe a postwar defensive move? Keisei owns big chunk of Shin, but reverse not true. Shin founded in Oct. 1946
interesting...I was aware Keisei was very involved in Shin-Keisei, just unsure why they don't make it more official
& the capitalizations are curious: Shin = 36.8 oku-en, Kei = 59.3 oku-en. Yet Keisei looks bigger than twice size. Definitely a story there.
