Prices (end-to-end) appear too high for many, and they run on diesel. How much of a factor is that?

less than you might think...the lack of demand on the routes is a problem, greatly exacerbated by low frequency service

Are the prices fair, at least for long distances? Costs less to fly LAX-SAT than a very long ride in the Texas Eagle.

I'm not sure how fair they are...I think they're reasonable tho, given how many employee hours you have to cover (vs air travel)

Would splitting each service in sections and letting States handle them be more optimal?
