Anyone got an example of major, successful urban train station *not* located in or adjacent to its CBD?
possibly...I need some more clarification of the parameters here--what is major & successful? how far from CBD?

Context for the discussion was Buffalo Central Terminal and Michigan Central Station. Did they fail b/c of distance?
-
ok--so, a city's *primary* intercity station being moved (or built) outside the CBD
-
best analogy I can think of in Japan would be the siting of certain Shinkansen stations, like the one in Gifu
-
or the new one in Hakodate--both stops are well outside the city centers and need lengthy connections to get there
-
but (fwiw) the connections exist, and the old downtown stations are also still used (just not by HSR)
