I think it won't work for the same reason that remittances don't transform the economies of poor countries that receive them

As far as I can tell, basic income = remittances, but more of them (and institutionalized instead of informal)

Basic income endgame = donors go bankrupt; recipients immediately lapse back into crushing poverty b/c they were treating symptom not cause
