We'll start today with a look at the red Midosuji Line, Osaka's first subway and the second subway in Japanpic.twitter.com/tJALrswYLj
Through service is available onto the short Kita Osaka Express railway, a subsidiary of Hankyu (a major suburban railway)pic.twitter.com/0BQ4cmY2Ac
The northern terminal, Senri Chuo, is a vast shopping center--the Osaka Monorail stops here too!pic.twitter.com/v1WSD221n8
Next is the purple Tanimachi Line--as you can see, most lines use the same rolling stock, with only the colors changingpic.twitter.com/ii2MnxC5OB
The blue Yotsubashi Line has a proposed extension from its northern terminal to Juso, on the Hankyu Railway, and then further to Shin-Osakapic.twitter.com/LNUDYsGMrH
The green Chuo Line runs east-west through the city, and provides through service onto the Kintetsu Keihanna Linepic.twitter.com/lN4pccrpNU
The pink Sennichimae Line is another with a proposed extension--from its southern terminal towards Mitopic.twitter.com/BRw2FmvQEu
The brown Sakaisuji Line offers through service onto the Hankyu Railway to Kyoto and Senripic.twitter.com/HWD7wIb3ow
The lime green Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line was the first linear motor subway line built in Japan...pic.twitter.com/B5N8y68ELY
...the technology was successful, and spread to other Japanese cities--but also to Osaka's newest line, the gold Imazatosuji Linepic.twitter.com/h9ft7kD5jX
The Imazatosuji Line's stations were built with distinctive eye-catching orange arches, to be more visible from a distancepic.twitter.com/1XUlQxOYwd
The last line isn't really a subway--the light blue Nanko Port Town Line is an elevated AGT system using rubber tirespic.twitter.com/of3TXTYWdZ
The carriages here are much shorter than typical train carriages--the result is rather comical, esp in the older rolling stockpic.twitter.com/FiKb3ofg3c
That concludes today's tour--I will discuss some financial problems faced by the Osaka subway in a future thread...
...until then, thank you for choosing #TrainTwitter today! We hope you had a pleasant journey.pic.twitter.com/FrSp1lszjh
