A United New England rail? How do you set boundaries?
-
doesn't need to be united, more like "rail in New England" than implying one single company/operator

I don't have the pix now, but one great thing about Oslo is that the metro network includes a line up into the hills north of the city. >
-
> You can get on in the heart of the capital, and 30 minutes later you're among forests, lakes, & mountains of the Nordmarka. >
-
> There's an extensive network of trails there for hiking, xc skiing, mountain biking, etc. All within the limits of Oslo. >
-
> I spent a whole day hiking there, then took the metro back downtown for dinner. Hard to think of similar situations in the US.
-
Boston could be a bit like that, in principle. Not necessarily with the T, but with regional trains like you're describing.
