Today I have been traveling from Dorchester to Swansea (I am still en route, typing this from a Great Western express train)

The first leg of the journey was in twilight, with stunning views of the Wessex farmland.

The train was a DMU, older model, a bit loud but with much more comfortable seats than I found on Southern or Southwest

The DMU on the second leg of the journey also had very comfy seats. The passengers on both trains were much more considerate too, no litter!

Overall conditions on the train were good--my only serious complaint was crippling lack of leg room

Other issues--announcements never mention the next stop until you're practically in it, which made me scramble to be ready to depart

Also, what exactly is the point of having high platforms if you then raise the train doors even higher, requiring a step? Very silly...

The train I'm on now is loco-hauled (boooo), with wifi, power outlets, very high backed seats, tons of leg room (yaaaay)

I have been using my old phone to take pictures, but that phone isn't readable by my laptop, so I will poast upon my return to the USA

Miscellaneous commentary: - Heart of Wessex Line is crying out for a Joyful Train - Platform and onboard announcements need jingles

Addendum: the Welsh accents on this current train are too adorable/incomprehensible for words
