Beijing Subway today + by 2021pic.twitter.com/V28z0YVl0u
I cannot emphasize how *recent* this all is. This gif may help, however:pic.twitter.com/j8y41adDz5
First line built in 1969. Two lines by the time I was born, 20 yrs later. 4 by the time I graduated high school. 13 by college graduation.
did they need to go underground, or are parts light rail ?
Beijing's subway is mostly underground AFAIK but includes some light rail as well
interesting....always sounded like getting rights/etc in High-density NE US was what drives up $ of expansion, not a prob there
NE US is not very high density by Asian standards, nor very pro-labor by Euro standards, yet more expensive than both
corruption, incompetence, and extravagance are the main cost inflators in American subway construction
ah good points - forgot I think I got that from IYI @asymmetricinfo
