The Kodama debuted in 1958, connecting Tokyo to Osaka in 6h50m. The Hatsukari debuted in 1960, connecting Tokyo to Aomori in 10h25m.
Today, the Shinkansen connects Tokyo to both cities--to Osaka in 2h22m, and to Aomori in 3h17m
