suburbs are neutral, can be good or bad; blocks (if referring to large subdivided buildings) usually bad
depending on what they mean by "blocks" that actually sounds pretty good to me

as I've said before: many small buildings > few large buildings!

if Japan is the model (as it is for me), you'd have most people living in suburbs; few "blocks" in cities

Are you referring to housing projects/apt buildings, or row houses?

I'm talking about two kinds of things; attached buildings that are functionally one mass...

...and large single buildings, designed as such, with multiple tenants

even in urban spaces, most buildings in Japan are small and detached (tho sometimes VERY close together)
