MBTA North-South rail link is the most ridiculously overhyped project in the Boston area. Blue Line to Charles is 100x as important.
better ways to approach all three of those goals, tho: - connectivity by using subway thru service ala Japan
-
-
- scheduling: a 2 track line w 4 track stub terminal ought to be turning trains around every 10 minutes, maybe better
-
- future expansions (assuming you mean frequency of departures) by adding tracks at bottlenecks leading to terminals...
-
...rather than adding tracks/platforms at the terminals themselves or drilling a new tunnel
-
Not, mind, that NS link is a *bad idea,* just that it's over-emphasized at the moment
