But the *really* important work isn't extending lines at all. Subway desperately needs rehab work, commuter rail needs drastic overhaul.

I disagree that it's overhyped. Improves connectivity, scheduling, removes need for future expansions

better ways to approach all three of those goals, tho: - connectivity by using subway thru service ala Japan
