Remind me again what's holding Americans back?

The Australian rail system is full of problems, don't get me wrong. But by American logic, it shouldn't exist *at all.*
-
American logic explains why the citizens aren't demanding a restored train network, not why it couldn't happen.
-
Locally we have things like the Salt Lake City area rail network coming along nicely. Looking forward to other areas doing the same.
-
Good luck in Utah! God willing, New England will figure it out too!
-
I didn't live there while it was really nice. Right now I'm in the Ozarks. I don't think my town ever had rail. Odd feeling.
-
not every town needs it! plenty of little villages in Japan never had rail service either
-
Tracks were everywhere in KS where I grew up - very few of them actually ran trains. They were paths for dates and such.

I'd do Perth to Sydney, hopping on and off as whimsy strikes, most definitely. Holla at some beckys, roo watching, smack a koala
