A brief musical interlude will follow...
On JR lines in the Tokyo area, a melody plays on every platform before the train's doors close--a sort of audio "yellow light"
If you're on the platform, hurry in; if you're almost there, don't rush because you won't make it
So with that said--these are the melodies at Shinjuku Station: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N25AMw1EQxQ … I'm fond of the ones at 2:16 and 2:41
These are the ones for Shinagawa, Ikebukuro, and Tokyo.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3CHmmHyeN0 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXmXbofjQwY … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK0W5j0wEjA …
...and these are the melodies of Ebisu Station. Do they sound familiar to anyone?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzHlp7t_-KY …
No takers...it's the theme from "The Third Man" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oEsWi88Qv0 …
The evening is getting away from me, so I'll wrap up this thread with a return to Hokkaido...
...looking at the Hakodate Main Line between Oshamambe and Sapporo. There's a station here for you @menaquinone4 (last 2 pics)pic.twitter.com/DNnBJHn5cO
this stretch includes the popular Niseko skiing resort--last pic is Niseko Stationpic.twitter.com/7QyETqSrH8
trains used on this route include the "Niseko Liner," shown in first two pics (the second is painted for the local baseball team)pic.twitter.com/ERCmx4Rdw3
Kutchan Station, in the largest town on the route, will have Shinkansen service by 2031. From here you can see the imposing Mt Yotei volcanopic.twitter.com/9D3h2nuHmE
Shikaribetsu and Ranshima Stations...Ranshima is the smallest train station in Japan that I've actually visitedpic.twitter.com/fxXnfEQe9f
I visited Ranshima in summer 2006 because there's a gorgeous beach there (and I was already spending the month in Sapporo)pic.twitter.com/QjQ0DyVVBB
After Ranshima is Shioya, then Otaru--a major suburb of Sapporo; the line is electrified from here to the citypic.twitter.com/dw9q6UmQlW
The line hugs the coast for a bit, then turns inland towards downtown Sapporopic.twitter.com/gkd5D7b0Yg
In the outlying parts of Sapporo now--an area called Teinepic.twitter.com/Rggv1dP48g
A few stops closer--Kotoni, with its giant apartment towerpic.twitter.com/CzQfb84fPc
Sapporo Station is gigantic...yes, that's a soba noodle stand on the platforms...pic.twitter.com/OqDhaV8Wxn
The station includes a Daimaru department store, a mall tower called Esta, 3 more malls inside the station (Paseo, Stella Place, Apia)...pic.twitter.com/eMl59E4SzD
Paseo is on the ground level on either side of the main concourse--Stella Place is the south facade--Apia is underground
and of course, the 38-story JR Tower, mostly used for offices; JR Tower is the tallest building in Sapporopic.twitter.com/UtWlVH0hKb
