I think it depends where you live too, and what you generally do. I know lots of people that have no desire to even own a car.

you don't need trains in the boonies bc you don't get the sort of hyper-commerce which necessitates them; cars cover most needs

I am always going to be in trouble though, because I'm a car guy who likes to travel to cities. Those two increasingly don't mix.
